Educational activity

One of the main goals of the RCGEB "Georgi D. Efremov” is educating young scientists. Up to date many young scientists have been educated in the field of molecular biology and genetic engineering techniques and biotechnology (a list of people educated in the RCGEB). In this period in the RCGEB have been prepared and defended a number of master's and doctoral theses (review of the master's and doctoral theses). Also, many scholars from home and abroad have visited the RCGEB for longer training and specialization (list of specialists).

The RCGEB was the initiator and coordinator of interdisciplinary studies in molecular biology and genetic engineering, organized by the University "Ss. Cyril and Methodius ", Skopje, in the period of 1998-2002. Fifty professors from eight different schools participated in the performance of the practical and theoretical courses and studies that have been completed by 23 young researchers from different areas, human medicine, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, agriculture and Informatics (the RCGEB graduate studies and a list of candidates’ topics).

The researchers from the RCGEB are involved in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies at the University "Ss. Cyril and Methodius ". In the RCGEB, for many years have been pursued trainings of trainees in medical genetics, which is part of the Medical Faculty. The RCGEB is the initiator of new specialization in clinical genetics laboratory. This specialization was implemented in 2014 at the Pharmacy Faculty, Skopje and the RCGEB is one of the main institutions that will be participating in the theoretical and practical part of the specialization in clinical genetics.

The RCGEB organized the 7th Balkan Congress of Human Genetics in 2006, where 234 scientific papers were presented by researchers from more than 20 different European countries (BJMG Suppl 2006).

The international recognition of the RCGEB allows organizing several educational, theoretical and practical courses in the field of molecular biology and genetic engineering, sponsored by various international foundations:

  1.  "Application of genetic engineering in human and veterinary medicine" (8 to 19 April 1991) sponsored by the UNESCO / UNDP and the Ministry of Science of the Republic of Macedonia,
  2.  "Application of recombinant DNA technology in human medicine" (14 to 22 November 1992), sponsored by the Federation of European Biochemical associations (FEBS) and UNESCO,
  3.  "Methods with nucleic acids in human and veterinary medicine" (25 to 30 May 1998) sponsored by the RCGEB-Trieste,
  4. "PCR-based methods for the detection and characterization of inherited, infectious and malignant diseases" (27 September to 2 October 1999) sponsored by the UNESCO and the FEBS,
  5. "First Course in genomics and proteomics" (22 to 26 November 2010), sponsored by the MACPROGEN project of the European Commission (FP7 program, REGPOT-2008-1),
  6.  "Second course in genomics and proteomics" (27 to 29 June 2011), sponsored by the MACPROGEN project of the European Commission (FP7 program, REGPOT-2008-1),
  7. "Third Course in genomics and proteomics" (1 to 6 March 2012), sponsored by the MACPROGEN project of the European Commission (FP7 program, REGPOT-2008-1),
  8. "Final MACPROGEN Conference” (29 March to 1 April 2012), sponsored by the MACPROGEN project of the European Commission (FP7 program, REGPOT-2008-1).
